National Food Faces Day

National Food Faces Day occurs every year on April 6. The day was created in honor of Chef Rudi Sodamin’s work as a food-face artist, and also to celebrate his birthday, which happens to be on this exact same date. Chef Sodamin is the Holland America cruise line’s Master Chef, and as a way to entertain his team members, came up with the idea of making food faces. He began designing them, and eventually started taking photographs, collecting them until, years later, he went on to release his coffee table book “Food Faces.” It featured over 150 images of his edible characters, each one created from food items like vegetables, fruit, meats, fish, grains, and sweets.

SAAM Day of Action

We mark SAAM Day of Action every first Tuesday in April and this year it will be held on April 7. Observed as part of the wider Sexual Assault Awareness Month (S.A.A.M), this special Day of Action aims to raise awareness about sexual assault and educate people on useful ways to prevent its occurrence. The annual theme of SAAM Day of Action is chosen by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (N.S.V.R.C), which also organizes events targeted toward education and awareness of sexual violence. Reflecting the world’s growing dependence on technology, the themes in recent years focus on sexual assault prevention in online spaces.

National Nebraska Day

National Nebraska Day is observed every year on April 5. This holiday was created to celebrate Nebraska’s history, culture, and people. It also commemorates the day Nebraska became part of the U.S. as the 37th State. Nebraska is bordered to the north by South Dakota, to the east by Iowa, to the south by Kansas, to the southeast by Missouri, to the southwest by Colorado, and the west by Wyoming.
