National Rescue Dog Day

The National Rescue Dog Day on May 20 brings with it a promise of love, friendship, and kindness. Each year, millions of animals, specifically dogs, are abandoned by their owners and end up on the streets. Many of these animals are used to a sheltered life, and this, in turn, makes it difficult for them to fend for themselves out in the world. Food sources are hard to come by. Moreover, humans and other animals also pose a threat to these abandoned animals. Animal welfare organizations step in to help by providing a shelter, home, etc. Many of these organizations also encourage people to adopt the dogs, so that they get a new home and to create more space for other dogs in the shelters. Adopting, or even just fostering, helps people and the animals in the long run.

National Idaho Day

National Idaho Day is celebrated every year on May 17. It celebrates the joyful day in 1863 when Idaho was recognized as the 43rd state by the union. Today, the state is best known for its industries, forest cover, and tourism. On this day, Idahoans celebrate the day by showcasing the Gem State’s treasured past, flourishing present, and promising future. Celebrations are led by the Idaho Historical Society and proud citizens of the state. Schools and universities, state agencies, and other organizations also join in the merrymaking!

National Cherry Cobbler Day

We love a good cherry cobbler as much as the next person and, on May 17, we celebrate National Cherry Cobbler Day! For those of you who don’t know, cherry cobbler is a baked dessert made with a rich cherry filling and a biscuit dough crust. The cherry cobbler first came into existence in the 19th century when bakers had to modify recipes due to the scarcity of ingredients. You could say that the cherry cobbler is a cooler version of the traditional cherry pie!
