Whit Monday

Whit Monday is celebrated a day after Pentecost Sunday, on June 9 this year. Thus, Pentecost is also known as Whit Sunday or Whitsunday. National Escargot Day

National Escargot Day is celebrated every year on May 24 and it honors the tasty French appetizer. Snails are commonly eaten in France and they’re referred to with the French word ‘escargot.’ They’re super expensive and are prepared with butter and garlic, and served in their shell. The French consume a lot of snails each year.

Victoria Day

To Canadians, Victoria Day — the Monday before May 25 — on May 18 this year, signifies the beginning of summer and the arrival of warmer, greener days. But, much like Independence Day in the U.S., Victoria Day has more colonial roots than are usually discussed amidst all the fireworks and jolly gatherings. This day marks the birthday of Queen Victoria, who was the ruling monarch at the time of Canada’s birth as a country in 1867. It’s a day to celebrate all the wonderful things that make Canada, Canada.
