We celebrate Cook Something Bold and Pungent Day on November 8. Little is left to the imagination, and celebrations are held by cooking bold and pungent foods. Or, in other words, food that will knock your socks off! Any recipe with lots of spices, flavorful condiments, or fragrances can be considered bold. As for pungent, any food that has a strong smell will qualify, and the smell of garlic, mustard, or even eggs can qualify as pungent. This day encourages us to experiment with our cooking and eating habits and not be boring with our food choices, even if it’s only for a day!
Karva Chauth

Karva Chauth is a popular Hindu festival celebrated on October 9 this year. It is always held on the fourth day after the full moon in this month and nine days before Diwali. On this day, married women, especially in Northern India, take time to fast from sunrise to moonrise. During this fast they pray for the safety, health and long life of their husbands. They have traditions from preparing various foods, decorating the dishes to break the fast with, which clothing to wear and even the gifts they give one another. Women begin preparing for Karwa Chauth a few days ahead of time by buying adornments, jewelry, lamps and henna. Local bazaars look festive as shopkeepers put their colorful Karwa Chauth products on display.
Love Your Lawyer Day

Love Your Lawyer Day is observed on the first Friday of November, making it November 7 this year. This is when we honor lawyers in the U.S. and encourage them to keep going, despite the often negative reputation they have. Even Shakespeare had nasty things to say about lawyers! This is despite many lawyers doing a wonderful job in tough circumstances, and with an ever-changing work environment. Law and the legal system has been around almost since the beginning of mankind in various forms, and despite those who abuse it, it is still a beacon of hope for those inclined towards justice.
