Background

Sarah Louise Health — or more famously known as Sarah Palin — was born in 1964 in Sandpoint, Idaho, the U.S. She has three siblings — two sisters named Heather and Molly, and a brother named Chuck Jr. Palin’s parents are Sarah Heath, a school secretary, and Charles R ‘Chuck’ Heath who was a science teacher and track and field coach. When Sarah was only a few months old, her family relocated to Skagway, Alaska where her father was hired to work, they then moved to Eagle River, Anchorage in 1969 and eventually settled in Wasilla, Alaska in 1972 where Palin spent most of her formative years and where she went to high school.

Palin attended Wasilla High School in Alaska where she was a part of many different extramural activities and groups. This includes the junior high band where she played the flute, she was also the head of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes — a member of the cross country running team, and a member of the girl’s basketball team. During her senior year, she became co-captain of the basketball team that won the 1982 Alaska State Championship where she earned the nickname ‘Sarah Barracuda’ for her competitiveness. Palin also took part in beauty pageants, winning the Miss Wasilla beauty pageant in 1984, and winning Miss Congeniality for the Miss Alaska pageant.

In 1992 she was elected to the Wasilla city council and became the mayor in 1996. In 2003, after an unsuccessful run for lieutenant governor, she was appointed chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission— responsible for overseeing the state’s oil and gas fields for safety. In 2006 she became the youngest woman to be elected as the Governor of Alaska.

After making a great impact on the state of Alaska, Palin decided in 2009 not to run for the 2010 reelection and would be resigning at the end of July that year. She stated that this decision was due to a violation and lack of ethics while working in the office — it is recorded that the state spent an insane amount of time and money on responding to ‘opposition research’ which included more than $500,000 in legal expenses. In 2010 the new governing rules in Alaska executed brand ethics that stemmed from Palin’s time as governor.

She has campaigned for the “Tea Party” movement and Donald Trump in 2016 since resigning as governor, and from 2010 to 2015 she was a political commentator for “Fox News.” She also hosted multiple television shows throughout the years including “T.L.C’s Sarah Palin’s Alaska” (2010), “Amazing America with Sarah Palin” on the Sportsman Channel (2014), and “The Sarah Palin Channel” (2014). Palin has also written a book titled “Going Rogue” which has sold more than two million copies.
