Background
Paul Edwin Zimmer was born on October 16, 1943, in Ohio, the United States. His zodiac sign is Libra. He was an American science fiction and fantasy author best known for his four-volume “Dark Border” series. His sister, Marion Zimmer Bradley, was also a science fiction and fantasy novelist.
Zimmer began his career as a poet and ended up with prose. However, he uses his poetry in his prose. Zimmer habitually wrote at night, and many visitors can attest to him pacing up and down as he thought through plot and wording problems, or pausing to do a martial arts dance with his swords. He also co-wrote “The Blood of Colyn Muir” with his foster brother Don, “Hunters of the Red Moon,” and “The Survivors” with his sister, Marion Zimmer Bradley. He is also supposed to have collaborated with Bradley without credit on “The Spell Sword” and is rumored to have assisted his sister in the fight scenes in some of her other “Darkover” novels. Zimmer was also a founder member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, where he was known as Master Edwin Berserk and was prominent in Bay Area poetry and neopagan groups. Zimmer was widely regarded as one of the greatest organizers of bardic circles, and he was usually asked to manage them wherever he happened to be. Despite his lack of Scottish ancestry, Zimmer was frequently seen at conventions and other public events wearing the MacAlpin tartan, complete with sporran. At home, he typically donned a blue bathrobe, appearing in regular dress only while dealing with officials or people outside his group.
Zimmer died while attending Albacon, a science fiction convention in Schenectady, New York, as a guest of honor. He attended in part to see his elder brother on the family farm. He died of a heart attack before aid could arrive. His ashes were cremated and buried in the family grave in Canandaigua, New York.
