Maria Brink, born on December 18, 1977, started as a laundromat attendant but rose to become one of the world’s biggest American metal singers and songwriters. She catapulted to fame after joining her band, In the Moment, as the frontwoman. The band has released seven studio albums and received Grammy Awards, Loudwire Music Awards, and Alternative Press Music nominations. Brink has worked with other bands including Papa Roach, Asking Alexandria, and Red Dragon Cartel. She is a painter by avocation.
Maria Brink was born on December 18, 1977, into a troubled family in New York. Her father abandoned the family when she was young. At age 14, Brink fell pregnant and had to drop out of high school. After having her son, Davion, she moved into an apartment and began working at a local laundromat to make both ends meet. In 1995, Brink joined her first band, Pulse, based in Albany, New York. The band mostly opened local shows for bands such as Coal Chamber and Sevendust. But the band members later split up.
In 2002, when she was 25, she moved from California to Los Angeles, looking for her big break. While searching for a band, Brink worked in stores and sang in coffee shops and bars. Two years later, she met now-band member Chris Howorth at an audition. Howorth refused to audition her because she was a woman. But he quickly changed his mind and apologized to her after hearing her sing. Together with drummer Jeff Fabb, they formed the band they called Dying Stars. The band was later joined by guitarist Blake Bunzel and bassist Josh Newell. After two gigs, the band changed its name to In This Moment.
Brink and In This Moment went on to release seven studio albums. Their debut album “Beautiful Tragedy” was released on March 20, 2007. The latest album titled “Mother” came out on March 27, 2020. Their other albums include “The Dream” (September 2008), “A Star-Crossed Wasteland” (July 2010), “Blood” (August 2012), “Black Widow” (November 2014), and “Ritual” (July 2017). She has been given the title “Hottest Chick in Metal” and named one of the “25 Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock & Metal” by “Revolver” Magazine.
