Grumpy's Social Media:

Background

Tardar Sauce, famously known as Grumpy Cat, was legendary for her facial expressions. Although they were not intentional, they worked in her favor. She ended up going viral and was recognized all over social media. She was born on April 4, 2012, as one of a litter of four kittens. They were owned by Tabatha Bundesen from Morristown, Arizona. Despite her parents being normal-sized with domestic short hair, Grumpy Cat was a little different. She had peculiar hind legs and was undersized. Her brother, Pokey, and she were the only ones with bubble eyes, flat faces, and short tails. Even though she always appeared grumpy, her owner stated that almost all the time, Grumpy Cat was just a normal cat.

She rose to fame when on September 22, 2012, Bryan Bundesen, Tabatha’s brother took a picture of her and posted it on Reddit. The social network users began creating parodies and “Lolcats” with her image. It wasn’t long before she became the subject of a popular internet meme. Humorously negative, sarcastic, and cynical photographs were created using her. She then looked for a meme manager, Ben Lashes, who represented her. He also represented Keyboard Cat and Nyan Cat. Her owner, Tabatha, started managing Grumpy Cat’s schedule after taking a leave of absence from her workplace. Tabatha’s brother, Bryan, started managing Grumpy Cat’s website and social media accounts.

From 2012, she made appearances at media stations to promote her brand with her handlers. She also appeared in advertising and marketing campaigns such as Friskies and General Mills’ Honey Nut Cheerios. She was a regular at South by Southwest Interactive “SXSW,” appearing for two hours each day. Some news and media outlets referred to her as the biggest star of the show over Elon Musk, Al Gore, and Neil Gaiman. She became the official spokescat of Friskies in 2013. Earlier in the same year, she had traveled to New York to promote a show where she was featured on “Good Morning America” and did a photo shoot for “Time.” In May 2019, Grumpy Cat’s death was sadly announced. She had succumbed to a urinary tract infection and died in the arms of her owner, Tabatha.
