Background

On May 24, 1989, in Oakland, California, G-Eazy was born. His father is an associate professor of art at California State University, Fresno. When he was in first grade, his parents divorced, and he moved in with his grandparents in Berkeley, California.

His mother was an artist who raised G-Eazy and his brother, James, while working part-time as a teacher at two separate schools. Although the family then relocated to North Oakland, he continued to attend Berkeley High School. His mother was the one who first exposed him to a life of music and celebrity, showing him the Beatles’ film “A Hard Day’s Night” when he was a child. G-Eazy, who had already decided to pursue a career in music, began working odd jobs at the age of 14 to fund his ambitions. When he was about 12 years old, his mother began seeing a lady named Melissa Mills, which was initially confusing to him. Mills suffered from depression and died of a drug overdose when he was still very young after he began to like her and consider her family. Suzanne Olmsted, his mother, died in November 2021.

G-Eazy began rapping in Oakley, California, while still in middle school. He and his friends formed “The Bay Boyz” at the age of 15 and began publishing their music through their MySpace website. He quickly began making his mixtapes, which he sold for $5 apiece. With his self-made cover art and emblem, he frequently tried to make the C.D.s appear legitimate. After graduating from high school, he relocated to New Orleans and enrolled in Loyola University’s Music Industry Studies program. ‘Candy Girl’ became popular in 2008, and it was included in “The Epidemic L.P.” in 2009. As he began to garner followers, he chose to start touring to build a following. His manager enlisted Christoph Andersson, a D.J. and fellow Loyola University student, to open for him on his travels. Andersson toured with him for two years straight and then produced and co-wrote music for his albums, resulting in a long-term partnership. By this time, G-Eazy had joined the ranks of Lil B, Crohn, and The Cataracs as East Bay’s newest hip-hop sensation.

In 2010, his reputation skyrocketed after he began opening for well-known singers such as Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg. With the release of his mixtape “The Endless Summer” in August 2011, G-Eazy established himself in the music industry. The song ‘Runaround Sue,’ which was sampled from Dion DiMucci’s original 1961 number-one song, was a runaway hit with millions of views on YouTube. He toured with Drake for a short period while still at the university in 2011 but had to postpone it when his teachers threatened to fail him if he skipped any more courses. Following his graduation in November of that year, he embarked on a nationwide tour with Shwayze. In 2012, he continued to tour across America, appearing alongside Hoodie Allen on the annual Vans Warped Tour in June and the Excellent Adventure Tour in July. With his self-released first full-length album, “Must Be Nice,” he reached third place on the iTunes Hip-Hop Chart in September of that year. On July 9, 2013, he performed on the “America’s Most Wanted Tour” with Lil Wayne and T.I. During this tour, he performed songs from his upcoming album, “These Things Happen,” which was released the following year by R.C.A. Records. He released his third studio album, “When It’s Dark Out,” on December 4, 2015, with the single ‘Me, Myself & I,’ featuring Bebe Rexha, reaching number seven on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. He then collaborated with Britney Spears on the single ‘Make Me,’ which was released on July 15, 2016. “The Beautiful & Damned,” his fourth studio album, was released in December 2017 and featured the singles ‘No Limit,’ ‘Him & I,’ and ‘Sober.’ The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, making it the singer’s third top 10 album in the U.S.

Devon Baldwin, a singer, actress, and model, was once in a relationship with G-Eazy. They met at Loyola University in New Orleans, where they were both students. At one point, he dated Lana Del Rey. He was in a long-distance romance with singer Halsey before calling it quits. Late last year, it was revealed that he was seeing Christina Roseann Ray. That romance, however, proved to be short-lived. In early 2019, he was rumored to be dating Victoria’s Secret model Yasmin Wijnaldum. In 2020, he is currently dating actress Ashley Benson.
