Florence Welch is an English singer and songwriter born in Camberwell, London to a British father and American mother. She began singing at an early age, often performing at family weddings and funerals. After finishing high school, Welch studied at Camberwell College of Arts before dropping out to focus on her music. She did a few gigs in small venues around London and started becoming noticed as a singer.

In 2009, Welch released her first album, under the band name Florence and the Machine, titled “Lungs.” The debut album was a huge success in the U.K. as well as the United States and peaked at number one in the U.K. as well as number one on the U.S. “Billboard” Heatseekers Albums chart. After the triumph of their first album, the band released three further albums, “Ceremonials” (2011), “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful” (2015), and “High as Hope” (2018).
