Background

Britney Jean Spears was born on December 2, 1981, in Kentwood, Louisiana to James Spears and Lynne Bridges. From a young age, Spears was interested in singing and dancing. She attended dance lessons and started competing in local singing competitions. At the age of eight, she auditioned for Disney Channel’s “The New Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.” Even though she didn’t get the part, one of the producers took an interest in her and connected her to an agent in New York. When she was 11, she auditioned again and finally got the part. The show was, however, canceled after her second season, leading her to pursue a career in music.

Spears signed a deal with Jive Records and started working with professional writers and producers. It was during this time that she released her single ‘Baby One More Time,’ which was included in her debut album of the same title (1999). Sure enough, the album skyrocketed Spears’ career and kicked off her journey into pop stardom. After that she did another hit album named “Oops! I Did It Again” (2000). The title track was an instant classic that remains relevant even today. Later on, Spears realized that in order to maintain the longevity of her career, she needed to acknowledge that her fans were growing up. This is why in her next album “Britney,” she put out a matured image (2001). It wasn’t as successful as her previous albums, but it did sell somewhat well in the market. The next album, “In the Zone,” shows her much more highly sexual side with singles such as ‘Toxic,’ ‘Everytime,’ and ‘Me Against the Music’ (2003). Over the years, Spears kept releasing quality albums including “Blackout” (2007), “Circus” (2008), “Femme Fatale” (2011), “Britney Jean” (2013), and “Glory” (2016).

Spears was previously married to Jason Alexander and then Kevin Federline. She has two children with Federline. Recently, she made headlines regarding the legal battle of her conservatorship with her family, specifically her father. This led to the creation of the #FreeBritney movement in support of her.
