National Lemon Bar Day

National Lemon Bar Day takes place annually on October 15. The holiday was created in 2019 by Michael McCarthy after he organized a bake sale and discovered that many people had never had a lemon bar before. Also called a lemon square, a lemon bar is a dessert bar consisting of a thin, shortbread crust and a lemon curd filling. Though they had long since featured in community cookbooks and local newspapers, the first widely publicized lemon bar recipe was printed in the “Chicago Daily Tribune” on August 27, 1962.

National Roast Pheasant Day

National Roast Pheasant Day is celebrated every year on October 15 in the U.K. It’s a day dedicated to roast pheasant. Also known as the ring-necked pheasant or common pheasant, the pheasant is a native Asian bird brought to Europe and the West during the 18th century. It belongs to the Phasianidae family of birds. The pheasant is a wild bird, and this holiday is dedicated to teaching people the proper way to roast it. Pheasants have delicate, pinkish meat that is mild in flavor, with a more distinct taste than chicken.

HSA Day

HSA Day is observed annually on October 15. The holiday is targeted at raising more awareness about the importance of health savings accounts. H.S.A. stands for health savings account. This medical savings account is used to save money to cover healthcare expenses. The money deposited into such accounts is controlled and monitored by the individual, not an insurance company or employer. Though an employer may contribute to the H.S.A., the account is ultimately under the control of the individual, and the money remains theirs even if they change jobs.
