Silver Star Banner Day

Silver Star Banner Day is celebrated on May 1. The day honors the sacrifices of the U.S. military personnel as well as those awarded with the Silver Star.

National Bombshell Day

National Bombshell Day, falling on the first Saturday in May — on May 2 this year, calls for women and their female friends to be celebrated. Due to an ever-growing technological world and the increased exposure levels, everyone has a set of expectations dumped onto them in terms of how they should look, behave, dress up, etc. Females, especially, continue to have immense societal/patriarchal preconceptions pushed onto them. A basic example is makeup. Women receive comments if they wear too much makeup, too little makeup, or no makeup at all — either way, there’s no winning. Thus, National Bombshells’ Day was created to highlight the importance of spreading self-love and love among women.

Mother Goose Day

We are swept back to memories of our childhood whenever we hear of Mother Goose Day on May 1. From Humpty Dumpty’s clumsy fall and the Three Little Pigs’ scramble for houses to Pinnochio’s elongated nose, fairy tales and nursery rhymes endlessly entertained us as kids whilst providing us with important life lessons. Charles Perrault, a French author, is thought to have been the first writer to establish fairy tales as a separate genre in 1695. Fast-forward a little further into the future, the Grimm fairy tales, which were published during the 19th century, have now become quite famous worldwide. Thanks to Disney, the Grimm fairy tales have become more child-friendly but, originally, they were gruesome in their details. For example, in the original version of “Snow White,” her stepmother died after being cursed to dance in glass heels forever.
