Puerto Rico Constitution Day

Puerto Rico Constitution Day is observed on July 25. It commemorates a landmark historical moment in 1825 when Governor Luis Muñoz Marín signed the first Puerto Rican Constitution into law. The holiday is also a reminder of Puerto Rico’s pending statehood, an elusive dream that has not seen the light of day for centuries.

Fiesta de Santiago (Nicaragua)

Fiesta de Santiago is commemorated on July 25 in Nicaragua. It is the primary religious festival held in honor of the Santiago Apostle. The event occurs annually in the country; many people participate in the festivities. The festival celebrations usually begin on July 19 and end on July 28. You can experience processions full of the religious fervor of the settlers during the festival. Part of the tradition is the image, which is paraded on a white horse, evoking the battle that the Apostle Santiago had against the Moors. People sing traditional songs and dance to the sound of the philharmonic bands.

Lempira Day

Lempira Day is on July 20. It is an annual Honduran festival named after a Lenca indigenous leader who led the struggle against the Spanish conquistadors in the 1530s. Chief Lempira gathered a 30,000-person army to fight the Spanish conquerors, but it proved unsuccessful. Despite the failure of the Lempira revolt, the Lenca leader is a recognized Honduran national hero. Lempira is on the one lempira note; the currency shares a name with one of the country’s 18 departments. Lempira Day is not a public holiday; however, it’s observed across Honduras, particularly in schools (most Honduran schools are in session in July).
