Here’s a holiday you’ll want to sink your teeth into — Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers® officially declared February 24 as National Steakburger Day to celebrate the brand’s famous steakburgers. Steakburgers are similar to a regular burgers, but the patty is made from more expensive cuts of beef instead of standard ground beef. Unlike typical beef patties, which often combine leftover cuts, a steakburger patty comes from a single cut of steak. This gives it a richer flavor.

History of National Steakburger Day

The steakburger is rooted in America’s love for beef. While the hamburger itself dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the steakburger emerged later as chefs and home cooks sought a richer, juicier alternative to standard ground beef patties.

Unlike traditional burgers the steakburger patty is made from a single cut of high-quality steak, such as sirloin, ribeye, or chuck. This gives the burger a more consistent texture and a bolder, meatier flavor.

The rise of the steakburger is closely tied to America’s growing interest in premium beef and gourmet fast food in the late 20th century. As restaurants and food enthusiasts began experimenting with upscale burgers, steakburgers started appearing on menus in higher-end diners and steakhouses.

The concept spread internationally, influencing burger trends in Europe, Asia, and beyond. Today, steakburgers are celebrated not only for their flavor but also for their craftsmanship.
