Zachary Knight Galifianakis, better known as Zach, is an American actor, comedian, writer, and musician whose talents and consistency have set him apart in Hollywood. He was born on October 1, 1969, in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. His mother was a community arts center owner, while his father was a heating oil vendor. Galifianakis is of Scot-Irish, English, and Greek descent. He attended Wilkes Central High School, majoring in communications at North Carolina State University.

Galifianakis made his television debut in 1996 in “Boston Common.” He played Bobby in this series for five episodes until 1997. In the same year, he played Zach in “Apt. 2F” for five episodes. The actor landed minor roles in “Heartbreakers” (2001). “Bubble Boy” (2001), “Corky Romano” (2001), and others before co-starring in “Out Cold” (2001). By 2002, Galifianakis hosted his VH1 talk show, “Late World with Zach.” From 2003 to 2005, he played Davis for 27 episodes on “Tru Calling.” Galifianakis appeared in more film and television productions before starring in his first lead role in “Visioneers” (2008). The following year he starred in “The Hangover” (2009). Galifianakis created a series called “Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis,” which was posted on the Funny or Die Website. In this series, he conducted rigged interviews featuring bizarre non-sequiturs and inappropriate questions with countless celebrities, while seated between two potted ferns. Galifianakis won the Outstanding Short-Format-Live-Action Entertainment Program award as this show’s producer at the 66th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
