In April 2005, Smith became a radio host on WEPN. He began hosting Quite Frankly with Stephen A. Smith on ESPN. After its cancellation, Smith was an NBA analyst and left ESPN in 2009. He returned to ESPN in February 2011 as a columnist for their website and weekday radio show host. In 2012, he joined First Take as a commentator and, in late 2014, signed a multi-year deal worth $3 million yearly with ESPN. In 2019, Smith became a UFC commentator.
