Smith is best known as a commentator on E.S.P.N.’s “First Take.” He is also known as an N.B.A. analyst on SportsCenter. Stephen Anthony Smith is an American T.V. personality and radio host whose skills have set him apart. He’s a Libra, born on October 14, 1967, in the Bronx, New York City. Smith is of African-American descent and was raised in the Hollis section of Queens. He is the fifth of six children and graduated from Thomas Edison High School in 1986. Smith received a basketball scholarship to attend Winston-Salem State University, an H.B.C.U. in North Carolina. He graduated with a degree in Mass Communication in 1991.
Smith was a writer for “The Philadelphia Inquirer” in 1994. He was the N.B.A. columnist for the Philadelphia 76ers when soon got the chance to become a general sports columnist. In April 2005, Smith became a radio host on WEPN. In August that year, he began hosting “Quite Frankly with Stephen A. Smith” on E.S.P.N. After the show’s cancellation, Smith served as an N.B.A. analyst and left E.S.P.N. in 2009. He returned to E.S.P.N. in February 2011 as a columnist for their website and weekday radio show host. In 2012, he joined “First Take” as a commentator, and in late 2014 signed a multi-year deal worth $3 million yearly with E.S.P.N. In 2019, after E.S.P.N. became the U.F.C.’s T.V. broadcaster, Smith became a U.F.C. commentator.
