She is the niece of Nancy Cartwright, who is also an American actress and filmmaker. Her first singing accomplishment as a child was when she took part in “The Next Miley Project,” a singing contest hosted by Miley Cyrus. Carpenter was placed third in the contest.

Her acting career began in 2011 when she landed a guest role in the popular crime series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” as a rape victim, and became well-known for her recurring role in “The Goodwin Games” as Chloe Goodwin in 2012. The star’s career breakthrough as an actress and singer came in 2014 when she starred in “Girl Meets World,” a Disney Channel series, as Maya Hart. In addition to acting in the series, she also used her singing talent and featured in the series theme song called ‘Take On The World.’ The series aired from 2014 until 2017.

Within the same year, Carpenter signed with Hollywood Records and released her debut single ‘Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying,’ which she received a ‘Radio Disney Music Award’ for in 2015. Her very first album, “Eyes Wide Open” was released in 2015, and her second album “Evolution” was released in 2016. While flourishing in her singing career with Hollywood Records, Carpenter starred in several films such as “Horns” in 2013, “Adventures in Babysitting” in 2016, “The Hate U Give” in 2018, and “The Short History of the Long Road” in 2019.

With her rising acting and singing career, she was listed in “Nylon Magazine’s Top 25 Gen Z’ers Changing The World” in 2018. In 2019, she embarked on her Singular Tour in Florida where she performed three of her songs, and later, released numerous singles. Within the same year, she starred in Netflix’s “Tall Girl” as well as its sequel, “Tall Girl 2” in 2022.

In 2021, Carpenter ended her contract with Hollywood Records and signed with Island Records, where she released her 2021 single “Skin,” which was ranked number 48 on Billboard’s Hot 100, making it her first Billboard entry. In 2022, she released another single called ‘Fast Times.’
