Rising Star Month – January 2023

Rising Star Month takes place in January and it aims to encourage all the talented individuals out there to step up and show everyone what they’ve got. Believe it or not, there are hundreds of people around us who are the future rising stars in their areas of expertise. Unfortunately, many of them don’t have the confidence to enter the limelight just yet. Well, this is what this month is all about. Throughout January, local organizations will be hosting competitions in different areas of talent to figure out who the next rising star is. So get ready to compete, or nominate someone who you know will blow everyone away!

History of Rising Star Month

A rising star is a person who possesses the talent to grow quickly in a particular field. While many television shows aired today focus on rising stars in the field of singing and dancing, talented individuals are not merely restricted to these fields. For instance, someone who is a great writer or poet is also a rising star. After all, William Shakespeare was once seen as a rising star in his era before he made it big. Similarly, since there are numerous careers today, there could be a rising star in the field of application design, music, fashion design, art, software development, public speaking, and many more.

In short, a rising star is a person with great promise. He or she is an individual that will outshine others since they are destined for greatness. Well, this is what this month is all about — promoting people who are stars in various aspects of life! Since ‘rising stars’ tend to bring something new to the table, psychologists have long been studying how such people can be identified. Moreover, how can one adapt qualities that make them outshine the rest? This is where talent psychology comes in. Regarding this particular area of research, Dr. Mary Jacobsen has made certain discoveries since the year 1998.

According to Dr. Jacobsen, talented people and high organizational performers are inescapably linked. Talent psychology also reveals that ‘rising stars’ often possess qualities that make them great leaders. This includes resilience, soundness of mind, curiosity, intelligence, and exceptional adaptability. Talented individuals, however, are different from people termed as ‘geniuses.’ While the concept of talent revolves around aptitude, a genius is original and can work on areas the world has not yet explored.
