Puducherry Liberation Day

Puducherry Liberation Day is observed every year on November 1 in the union territory of Puducherry in India. For a significant part of the 17th century, Puducherry was under the rule of the French East India Company. Puducherry, formerly known as Pondicherry, is where the French colonial empire ruled French India. French India consisted of Puducherry and other French colonies such as Chandernagor, Mahé, Yanam, Karaikal, and Masulipatam. This holiday commemorates the transfer of French India to the Republic of India on this day in 1954.

Defender of Ukraine Day

The Defender of Ukraine Day is an annual celebration held on October 14 in Ukraine. The holiday replaced the ‘Defender of the Fatherland Day’ on February 23 which originated in the Soviet Union. This national holiday honors the rich traditions of the Ukrainian people. It honors the bravery and heroism of those who defended Ukrainian independence, territorial integrity, military traditions, and victories of the Ukrainian people. October 14 is also the anniversary of the formation of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and the Day of the Ukrainian Cossacks.
