National Hawaii Day

National Hawaii Day is observed annually every July 5 to celebrate becoming the 50th state of the U.S. However, statehood was officially granted on August 21, 1959. It’s not known why the holiday is held on July 5th. It holds the distinction of being one of the four states that were once independent nations along with California, Texas, and Vermont.

Rwanda Liberation Day

Rwanda Liberation Day on July 4 is observed because it marks the end of a period under a tyrannical government and the beginning of freedom from oppression. It represents the end of a dictatorship and the start of democracy. The date is also the anniversary of the Rwandan Patriotic Front liberating the country and ending the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi. The day is known locally as ‘Kwibohora.’

Sacred Heart

The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus or Sacred Heart Day is observed in Colombia 10 weeks and a day after Easter Sunday and is all about highlighting the perfect, immeasurable love of Jesus Christ for all humanity. This year, it falls on June 15. This day originally falls 19 days after Pentecost, which is always a Friday, but like other Catholic celebrations in Colombia, it is celebrated on the Monday after the actual date.
