National Borinqueneers Day is commemorated annually on April 13. Borinqueneers are also known as the “65th Infantry Regiment.” This day recognizes their contributions to the “U.S. Armed Forces” as well as highlights their representation of Hispanic soldiers and veterans. It’s a time to remember the Puerto Rican soldiers who not only bravely fought on the battlefield to defend the freedom of every American but fought discrimination among their fellow soldiers as well. The Borinqueneers were symbols of hope for people willing to make sacrifices for a better future, even as they searched for acceptance and equality. As long as the memory of their valor is honored, their sacrifices will not be vain and their legacy will live on for generations of Puerto Ricans to be proud of.
FND Awareness Day

FND Awareness Day is held every year on April 13 and was first celebrated in 2013. It aims to promote awareness, support patients, and advance research for the prevention as well as treatment for ‘FND’ or ‘Functional Neurological Disorder.’ It was created by “FND Hope,” a charitable organization promoting awareness as well as support for patients, families, and carers affected by FND. FND is the second-most prevalent neurological diagnosis. Ironically, those suffering from these disorders may be poorly cared for yet their symptoms are commonly seen in neurology clinics worldwide.
Walk on Your Wild Side Day

Walk On Your Wild Side Day is celebrated each year in the U.S. on April 12. This is the day to let down your hair and do what you have always wanted to do. In a society strictly regulated by norms and rules, we tend to forget to have fun and do as we please. As long as we are being careful and not hurting someone else, Walk on Your Wild Side Day encourages us to reconnect with our inner child and do all things ‘wild’. We all have a wild, carefree side to us and today is the day to show it off in all its glory!
