National Department Store Day, celebrated every year on October 16, honors the significance and impact of department stores in the country. Department stores are commercial retail establishments that sell to customers directly. Unlike normal retail outlets, department stores classify and display a broad array of products as per department. For example, a department store will have separate sections or departments dedicated to fashion, furniture, appliances, foodstuffs, and so on. These stores fuel and support the American economy.
Huduma Day

Huduma Day, formerly known as Moi Day, is a Kenyan holiday celebrated on October 10 every year. Although this festival is relatively new to the calendar of this East African country, its significance is linked to the life and reign of one man. It wasn’t uncommon for rulers to institute special regulations and set a day to remember their legacy back in the day and, in the case of former Kenyan President Daniel Torotich Arap, his legacy was also worthy of commemoration. So, to mark his coming to power after the death of founding president Jomo Kenyatta, Arap designated October 10 as Moi Day. However, when the country’s constitution continued to be amended regularly, the administration felt it was time to reconsider what Moi Day truly signified. This resulted in the holiday being renamed Huduma Day.
White Sunday

White Sunday is a national holiday in Samoa that is observed every year on the second Sunday of October. The day will be marked on October 12 this year. White Sunday, also known in Samoan as ‘Lotu Tamaiti,’ or ‘Children’s Service,’ is a notable day in the calendar of Samoan children. On this day, families and communities commemorate childhood by honoring the children in their midst. In Samoa, children dress in their finest white attire, perform for their parents, and get served their favorite dish. Samoan children are treated to their favorite cuisines and get gifts all day long. Additionally, they receive unique privileges not ordinarily available to them, and some churches even offer baptisms for the young on this day.
