Cosmonautics Day

Cosmonautics Day is observed annually on April 12 in Russia and other former Soviet Union nations. This holiday commemorates the first crewed space flight on April 12, 1961, with Russian Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin on board. Thus, the Soviet Union became the first country to send a crewed flight to space, and Gagarin became the first human to orbit the planet. This elevated him to the status of a national hero as his country awarded him the title of ‘Hero of the Soviet Union.’ On April 9, 1962, the Soviet Union declared April 12 as Cosmonautics Day.

National Mac Day

National Mac Day is celebrated on April 12 annually. “Mac” is a common name in Scotland, Ireland, and other countries with a significant population of Irish and Scottish descendants. Most names beginning with Mac are its Christian or anglicized versions, like MacDicken, MacRitchie, and MacGuinness. The submergence of Gaelic, a Celtic language, in eighteenth-century Ireland, pushed this name into oblivion, but it still goes strong in Scotland and, to a lesser extent, Wales. Mac and Mc are often interchangeable; the latter is the short version of the former.

Nickelodeon Anniversary Celebration Day

Nickelodeon Anniversary Celebration Day is observed in the U.S. on April 1. The day commemorates the launch of America’s first cable channel for children. It celebrates the heroes, villains, sponges and starfish, and cats and dogs who redefined children’s programming in the 1990s and beyond. As for the network, the day is a perfect opportunity to reflect on how children’s animations have evolved with technology and reinforce their efforts to remain frontrunners in children’s entertainment across the globe. Although Nickelodeon Anniversary Celebration Day was created officially in 2021, the network has been thrilling fans with nostalgic episodes of their favorite characters since 1999.
