Kiss and Make Up Day

Kiss and Make Up Day on August 25 celebrates the end of a grudge. After an argument, it’s easy not to forgive. It’s easy to stay angry but, remember, it was Gandhi who said that only the strong can forgive, and the weak can never. Exercise your strength by forgiving — just kiss and make up! The holiday was created by a woman named Jacqueline Milton to re-examine old relationships and find ways to repair them. All this is to say that today is the best day to bury the hatchet!

National Skipping Day

National Skipping Day is on April 24, and its purpose is to raise physical health awareness for children with a day of healthy exercise through skipping. It’s organized by Skipping Workshops that have around 250 schools with over 50,000 kids taking part in numerous skipping activities. Some might consider it childish, but skipping is a great way to exercise. It targets almost all the muscles in your body, it burns fat, and it also builds stamina. Having fun while exercising doesn’t get any better!

National Pigs in a Blanket Day

the perfect pigs in a blanket day entree

If the phrase “pigs in a blanket” conjures up images of darling newborn piglets swaddled in warm fluffy blankets you are definitely not a foodie. National Pigs in a Blanket Day on April 24 is a holiday celebrating one of our favorite comfort foods — pork sausage (or hotdogs) baked in pastry.

And whom shall we thank for all this? Start with Betty Crocker, whose cookbooks decorated every post-war kitchen — exposing young impressionable minds to this culinary delight. In 1957 she published Betty Crocker’s Cooking for Kids, with the first simple recipe for the taste treat, and the rest is history! From a child’s first flour-smudged attempts at cooking to chic cocktail party fare, and from fancy pastry crust to pre-made biscuits in a tube, pigs in a blanket are the ubiquitous snack for every occasion. Whether it’s a plain hotdog or a fancy sausage wrapped in your favorite dough, gather your friends and share memories of the first time you were introduced to pigs in a blanket.
