We jump at any chance to celebrate women and their importance in our lives, which is why we love National Women’s Checkup Day, held every year on the second Monday in May, on May 11 this year. To continue a bit of a theme, this day comes up right after the world celebrates Mother’s Day. In fact, it is celebrated on the Monday directly after Mother’s Day. Held to focus on the importance of regular checkups and doctor’s visits, this day encourages all women to take more steps and maintain better health.
National Sea Monkey Day

National Sea Monkey Day falls on May 16 every year to celebrate these little creatures. Sea Monkeys were created in a lab many years ago but since then they’ve become a common household pet. Many of us have happy memories of awaiting the delivery of our first Sea Monkeys in the mail. They are really popular with children and adults alike and, at one point, they were even heavily marketed by comic books.
National Rescue Dog Day

The National Rescue Dog Day on May 20 brings with it a promise of love, friendship, and kindness. Each year, millions of animals, specifically dogs, are abandoned by their owners and end up on the streets. Many of these animals are used to a sheltered life, and this, in turn, makes it difficult for them to fend for themselves out in the world. Food sources are hard to come by. Moreover, humans and other animals also pose a threat to these abandoned animals. Animal welfare organizations step in to help by providing a shelter, home, etc. Many of these organizations also encourage people to adopt the dogs, so that they get a new home and to create more space for other dogs in the shelters. Adopting, or even just fostering, helps people and the animals in the long run.
