It’s National Dress Up Your Pet Day on January 14, and we want you go to all out. Celebrate by dressing up your furry family member in comfortable pet clothing — maybe even get matching outfits, if you want to get crazy. If it were any normal day, people would be staring at you at your dog in the street. However, on National Dress Up Your Pet Day, matching outfits are not only accepted, but also encouraged! Who’s the angel responsible for this holiday? National Dress Up Your Pet Day was started in 2009 by celebrity pet lifestyle expert and animal behaviorist Colleen Paige. It celebrates pets and helps to support the pet fashion community. The chance only comes once a year to wow the neighbors and to unleash the inner diva of your favorite pooch, so make sure your dog is dressed for the occasion!
Have you ever wondered how the first human discovered cheese? We’ve wondered that too, and we’ll probably never find out. All we know is that it was love at first bite; when the first human tasted the salty, tangy, delicious goodness of cheese, they were hooked. And we can definitively say that human history was forever changed. Cheese might have had mysterious beginnings over 7,000 years ago, but it’s insanely popular today. In the U.S, one-third of all milk produced in this country goes into cheese production. It’s a multi-billion dollar industry! We’re ready to celebrate it. On January 20th, get ready to ‘havarti’ a ‘gouda’ time, because it’s National Cheese Lover’s Day!
Celebration of Life Day is January 22! Although you should be appreciating your children and grandchildren every day, this holiday is a day to recognize and celebrate them. You’re supposed to step back and think about what makes your children and grandchildren so special. To truly celebrate, you should try to view the world through the lens of a child. And, if you want, you can shower the young ones of the world with presents and candy. We’re sure they wouldn’t mind.
Are blondes really more fun? That question may be up for debate on any given day, but on January 22—National Blonde Brownie Day—the answer is a resounding, "YES!" blonde brownies, aka blondies, replace the cocoa in a brownie with brown sugar for a warm, rich molasses-flavored treat. For those times when chocolate is just too heavy, lighten up and enjoy a blondie. On National Blonde Brownie Day, we celebrate these lighter treats by baking, eating, sharing, and buying them!
Galentine’s Day is a holiday about joy, laughter, fun, and women. To quote the great Leslie Knope on the TV show “Parks and Recreation” from which the day gets its origins, “Oh, it’s only the best day of the year...Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus Frittatas”. Considered by some to be the anti-Valentines Day, Galentine’s Day is held every year on February 13. So this year, gather your best girlfriends together and celebrate the awesomeness of the ladies in your life. Whether you get together for a low-key movie night or do it up big with dinner and dancing, don't let this holiday pass you by without your gals at your side.
Valentine’s Day really did start as a feast day for St. Valentine, the patron saint of love and affection. But thanks to Chaucer and his tales, the day became infused with the romance, tension, and drama of the English imperial court. Et voila, 200 years later, it means we’re buying chocolates and making reservations for very expensive meals. Join us on February 14th as we celebrate this special day of love.
