His parents are Dr. James Norman Hiddleston, who is a physical chemist and had also liaised with Oxford University as a former managing director of a biotechnology company. His mother is Diana Patricia Hiddleston, who is a former stage manager. Quite fortuitously, his sister Emma is an actress while Sarah works as a journalist in India. Hiddleston’s name is one he shares with his great-great-uncle who was a shipyard plater from a town in Scotland named Greenock and was also a member of Royal Artillery’s 51st (Highland) Division.

Before joining the Dragon School in Oxford, Hiddleston had attended boarding school at Windlesham House School when he was seven years old.
