Malia Ann Obama was born and raised in Chicago with her father Barack, an Illinois state senator and law professor, and her mother, Michelle, who was the University of Chicago’s associate dean of student services. In 2008, her father was elected president and the Obama family moved into the White House. She attended the Sidwell Friends School with her younger sister, Sasha, while heeding the duties of being the president’s daughter.

Obama was kept as grounded as possible after moving into the prestigious White House, taking part in typical teenage activities such as class trips, summer camps, and her school prom, under the watchful eye of the Secret Service.
