Jones was born in New York City on July 15, 1976, and is of Puerto Rican and Aruban descent. Due to family problems, Jones grew up in Harlem and was mostly raised by his maternal grandmother. He was introduced to hip-hop at age six and met his musical influence, Cameron Giles, at age 13.
In August 2004, Jones released his debut studio album “On My Way to Church.” The album debuted at number 18 on the Billboard 200 charts, rose to number three on its Independent Albums chart, and attained the number-four spot on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The following year, Jones dropped his second album, “Harlem: Diary of a Summer,” in August 2005. With the release of this album, Jones became the A&R executive at Entertainment One Music record label. His third album “Hustler’s P.O.M.E.” featured Lil Wayne and was more commercial. The single ‘We Fly High,’ from this album became platinum-certified by the R.I.A.A. His next album was a collaborative one with his rap group ByrdGang, titled “M.O.B.:The Album.” The rapper released another album before his documentary “This is Jim Jones,” which dropped in June 2009.
As of May 2019, Jones has released six albums. He is the co-owner of Vampire Life clothing and made his acting debut in “State Property 2” (2005). He has also made several appearances on the VH1 show “Love & Hip Hop: New York” and even had his own show, “Chrissy & Mr. Jones,” in 2012. The show focused on his personal life with his fiancee Chrissy Lampkin. Jones is a successful rapper and record executive.
