Background

Emily Olivia Leah Blunt, popularly known as just Emily Blunt, was born on February 23, 1983, in the London Borough of Wandsworth. Her mother was an actress and teacher, and her father was a barrister. At the young age of 16, she attended Hurtwood House, a private college known for its performing arts program, where she was discovered by an agent.

In 2001, her door to acting opened when she acted in her first stage play, “The Royal Family,” and was thereafter named the Best Newcomer for her performance in the “Evening Standard” London newspaper. In 2002, she played Juliet in a “Romeo and Juliet” play at the Chichester Festival Theater. Blunt made her first appearance on television in 2003 in a show called “Boudica,” and started gaining more recognition after her role in her first film, “My Summer Love,” in 2004. In the following year, Blunt earned her very first award, the Most Promising Newcomer award at the Evening Standard British Film Awards for her performance in “My Summer Love.” In the same year, her performance in the television drama, “Gideon’s Daughter,” won her the ‘Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.’ Blunt’s career breakthrough came in 2006 with her performance in the comedy-drama film, “The Devil Wears Prada,” where she was nominated for the ‘B.A.F.T.A. Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role’ and the ‘Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress-Motion Picture.’ In 2009, the rising actress won various awards for her performance in several films, one of which was the ‘B.A.F.T.A. Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year.’ Her nominations in the same year included the ‘Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture-Drama’ and the ‘Critics Choice Movie Award for Best Actress.’

In 2010, the award-winning British actress married director, John Krasinski. She has since continued to star in various movies, including in her husband’s thriller film, “A Quiet Place,” in 2017, as well as its sequel, “A Quiet Place Part II,” in 2021. In 2020, Blunt was ranked sixth on the “Forbes” list of highest-paid actresses in the world.
