Heroes’ Day of Zambia

Heroes’ Day in Zambia is observed on the first Monday of July every year and takes place on July 6 this year. The day honors those who fought in Zambia’s long struggle for independence. Recently, the list of heroes has expanded to include and commemorate those who may not have been a part of the struggle but still made heroic contributions to the nation’s advancement, such as the 18 members of the Zambian soccer team who died in a plane crash off the coast of Gabon in 1993.

Heroes’ Day is followed by Unity Day — both are public holidays where businesses, schools, and offices are closed.

Official Birthday of HM King Tupou

We celebrate the Official Birthday of His Majesty King Tupou VI on July 4 every year even though his real birthday is July 12. This day is marked as a public holiday in Tonga and if it falls on a Sunday, the citizens will get the following Monday off. The festivities begin on July 1 and last until July 4. First, a thanksgiving prayer is held at the palace, this is then followed by a Royal Luncheon on the palace grounds. Traditional entertainment such as lakalaka, mā’ulu’ulu, and group dances are performed. The military will host a parade and flag ceremony at the beginning and end of the royal function and this is often recorded and broadcast on radio and television. Entertainment also includes a brass band performance by the Royal Corps of Musicians and other popular performers will provide entertainment for the celebrations as well.

Queen Sonja’s day

Queen Sonja’s Day on July 4 commemorates the Queen’s birthday. Norwegians adore their vacations almost as much as they adore their monarchs. The Queen is immensely popular in Norway, and her birthday is marked by the raising of national flags around the country. The birthdays of the majority of the royal family members are commemorated in Norway with an official holiday. These are not public holidays, but rather regular workdays. There are, however, events commemorating the family member’s milestone birthdays. To get you up to speed on the Queen, here are some facts about her life.
