Metric System Day takes place on April 7 every year. Now often used as a synonym for the International System of Units (or S.I.), the metric system is a system of measurement used in most countries of the world except the United States and a few other countries. The metric system was introduced by France in 1799 and it’s an original, decimal-based (based on powers of 10) measurement format based on meters and kilograms. Base units in the metric system include kilograms, meters, and liters. The metric system also uses the Kelvin scale (or the Celsius scale) to measure the temperature. The decimal-based prefixes in the metric system include milli, centi, deci, and kilo. However, these prefixes are not used with the temperature degree.
President Ntaryamira Day

President Ntaryamira Day is an annual holiday that takes place on April 6 in the Republic of Burundi. It’s a solemn day commemorating the anniversary of the death of President Cyprien Ntaryamira in 1994. Burundi’s Parliament elected Ntaryamira as the next president in early 1994, following the assassination of President Melchior Ndadaye who became Burundi’s first democratically elected president in June 1993. Unfortunately, both President Ntaryamira and Rwandan President Juvénal Habyarimana died on April 6, 1994, in a plane crash in Rwanda. These events heralded the Rwandan Genocide and resulted in one of the darkest periods in African history. On this day, government offices, schools, and businesses in Burundi are closed to observe the solemn anniversary.
Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month

Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month is observed annually in April to increase the public understanding of math and stats. A nerd’s dream — the month also celebrates mathematics and statistics for their unique role in solving critical real-world problems. The month has evolved from a week-long dedication to the promotion of math as a discipline, introduced by an official proclamation of President Ronald Reagan in 1986. If you’re interested in pursuing math, here are mathematics scholarships that may help you do that. Since 2017, the central theme of the awareness month celebrates the leading figures in the field for their contributions to solving the glaring problems in our lives.
