National Thrift Shop Day, celebrated on August 17, is all about supporting local thrift shops and raising awareness for charitable organizations. Thrift shops aim to help those most vulnerable in communities and give back to the needy. Known by a myriad of other names, thrift shops are also referred to as consignment stores, second-hand stores, resale shops, and hospice shops. Volunteers willing to help out usually work at the shops, often sorting through donated items people drop off. These used pieces are then sold to the public, providing those in need a convenient service at an affordable price!
National Airborne Day

National Airborne Day, August 16, was chosen by former President George W. Bush back in 2002 as a day to recognize the past, present, and future contributions of American airborne troops in all campaigns, theaters, and peacekeeping missions. For example, the invasion of Normandy during World War II might have gone the wrong way and cost thousands more lives, if not for Allied soldiers dropping from aircraft behind enemy lines. From the first American use of paratroopers on August 16, 1942 to the 101st “Screaming Eagles,” airborne divisions are some of our best and bravest.
Google Commemoration Day

We celebrate Google Commemoration Day on September 7 each year. Google is a search engine created as a research project at Stanford University to locate files on the internet. What differentiates Google from its competitors and keeps it in the pole position among search engines is its page ranking system. This system sorts results according to relevance and helps people find answers to virtually everything. Despite its reputation as a premium search engine, Google offers several services such as Google Maps to make life much easier. In fact Google also provides with several scholarships to support funds towards education, learn more about these on Scholaroo.
