National Textiles Day

National Textiles Day

It’s National Textiles Day on May 3, and we’re recognizing the major role textiles play in our everyday lives. Textiles are woven from natural and synthetic materials into the clothes we wear, the bedding we sleep on, the rugs we step on, and even the canvases we paint on. One of the major pioneers of sustainable and environmentally friendly textiles — and the creator of this fun day — is a company called Valley Forge. Take a second and think about what life would be like without textiles. Our clothing, home decor, and way of life would be totally different.

National Two Different Colored Shoes Day

National Two Different Colored Shoes Day

One of the quirkiest days of the year, National Two Different Colored Shoes Day is celebrated on May 3. This day was created to encourage us to embrace our uniqueness and put it on display. It was created by Dr. Arlene Kaiser, a public speaker and educator who takes being unique seriously. The day was first celebrated in 2009 as a way to recognize and celebrate human diversity. On this day, you should put a different colored shoe on each foot just to show your acceptance of our differences as humans. Don’t be afraid to stand out!

National Sense of Smell Day

National Sense of Smell Day

National Sense of Smell Day is an annual event held on the last Saturday in April to start the conversation around the sense of smell. Smell is one of the five senses and helps people to recognize any harmful substances in their environment, for example, in their food or in the surrounding air. As people age, there is a natural decline in the sense of smell. The reduced ability to smell makes it vital to raise awareness about detecting such loss in the early stages so as to prevent it from getting worse by taking appropriate remedial action.
