An interchange in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday night until 5 a.m. on Monday morning as part of an ongoing road improvement project. PennDOT says Route 30 in both directions and the bridge carrying Route 222 over Route 30 will be closed to allow a contractor to place beams on a new bridge that will carry Route 30 eastbound over Route 222.

Why it matters

This closure is part of a larger, multi-year project to improve the Route 30/222 interchange in Lancaster County. The project aims to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow in the area, which is a major transportation hub. The weekend closure is a necessary step to advance the construction work.

The details

During the closure, detours will be in place for drivers. The eastbound Route 30 detour will use Route 501 (Lititz Pike) south to Route 222 south, while the westbound Route 30 detour will use northbound Route 222 to the Route 272 (Oregon Pike) exit. Delays and congestion are expected along the detour routes.

  • The closure will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2026.
  • The closure will last until 5 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2026.
  • In case of inclement weather, the closure may be pushed back to April 24-27, 2026.
