Newly released Department of Justice files reveal that former Prince Andrew sent gushing emails to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, begging to be allowed to stay in Epstein's homes just weeks after the financier was released from jail in 2009. The emails show Andrew asking to use Epstein's Paris apartment and offering to have someone known as 'S' stay in his New York home. Andrew has long denied wrongdoing related to Epstein, but the emails add to the mounting calls for him to testify before Congress.
Why it matters
The revelations about Andrew's communications with Epstein after the sex offender's release from jail raise further questions about the extent of their relationship and Andrew's judgment. As a senior member of the British royal family, Andrew's actions have significant public interest and impact, especially given the ongoing investigations into his conduct.
The details
According to the DOJ files, on September 6, 2009, just weeks after Epstein was released from jail, Andrew sent him an email saying, "I have to go to Paris this coming weekend 11th to 14th Sept, and I remember that you have an apartment in Paris and was just wondering if I might be able to use it for the weekend?" Epstein replied "of course" and offered Andrew the use of his car and driver. Two months later, Andrew asked to stay in Epstein's "beautiful apartment" in New York. The emails were sent from an account named "The Duke" and signed by either Andrew or the letter "A".

What’s next
Thames Valley Police is investigating two recently filed complaints related to Andrew, including allegations that Epstein sent a woman to the UK to have sex with Andrew at his former residence, the Royal Lodge in Windsor. Additionally, an anti-monarchy campaigner has reported Andrew to police for allegedly forwarding confidential trade files to Epstein.
The takeaway
The newly released emails further tarnish Andrew's reputation and raise serious questions about the extent of his relationship with the convicted sex offender Epstein, even after Epstein's release from jail. The revelations add to the mounting calls for Andrew to testify before Congress about his ties to Epstein.
