The Boston College Eagles, led by Bruins prospects Andre Gasseau and James Hagens, defeated Boston University 6-2 to win the 2026 Beanpot championship at TD Garden. Gasseau scored two goals, including one on the power play, while Hagens recorded two assists. Five other Bruins draft picks also played key roles in the victory, as BC captured its first Beanpot title since 2016.
Why it matters
The Beanpot is a prestigious annual college hockey tournament featuring the four Boston-area schools - Boston College, Boston University, Harvard, and Northeastern. Winning the Beanpot is a major accomplishment for the BC program and its players, many of whom are Bruins prospects looking to make an impression for the NHL club.
The details
After Boston University took an early 1-0 lead, Gasseau tied the game with a power-play goal in the first period. Hagens recorded an assist on that goal, and later set up another power-play tally by Lukas Gustafsson in the second period. Gasseau scored his second goal on the power play in the third period to make it 4-1 BC. Bruins first-round pick Dean Letourneau also scored for the Eagles, who pulled away for the 6-2 victory.

“It is just exciting to be able to get this trophy, not only for us, but for our school and all the fans that showed up today. It means a lot. We had a couple guys that played with us that were able to come back and be here tonight. To be able to have their support is awesome – a huge help.”

“Not just the offense; he brings everything to us. He's the first over the boards on the PK, first over the boards on the power play. He plays against the other team's top players; he wins faceoffs. He really does everything. Playing center, controlling the ice down low in the defensive zone. There's not anything that he's not doing for us.”
