Tulane University announced a major new development for its Uptown New Orleans campus - the creation of a combined green space called 'Unified Green' that will remove a parking lot on Newcomb Circle and merge the existing Newcomb Quad and Berger Family Lawn into one expanded outdoor area with a central plaza, lighting, seating, and improved stormwater management features.

Why it matters

This project is the fourth and final phase of Tulane's multi-year initiative to make the campus more pedestrian-friendly and enhance the overall campus experience for students, faculty, and visitors. The new green space will provide more usable outdoor gathering areas and help mitigate local flooding issues.

The details

Unified Green will feature a central plaza with lighting and seating areas for both intimate gatherings and large-scale campus events. The project will also include an underground detention system to temporarily store rainwater during heavy storms, reducing strain on local infrastructure and flood risk. Construction is set to begin on April 20 and be completed by spring 2027.
