The Sixth Annual Little Richard Festival is returning to Macon, Georgia this Saturday, April 18th, after being postponed last year due to funding challenges. The festival, organized by the Friends of the Little Richard House community group, will feature live music, food, and family activities at Jefferson Long Park in the city's Historic Pleasant Hill neighborhood.

Why it matters

The festival commemorates the 2019 public opening of Little Richard's preserved childhood home, which was relocated from its original location. The event aims to honor the rock and roll pioneer's legacy and inspire the local community, especially the youth, by highlighting the great achievements that can come from Pleasant Hill.

The details

The Friends of the Little Richard House, a community group made up of current and former Pleasant Hill residents, has taken on more of the event logistics themselves this year after previously relying on outside help. The group has also begun talks with Visit Macon and other city entities to make next year's festival even larger.
