Jensen Beach boys basketball secured its first district title in eight years, defeating South Fork 58-47 in a wire-to-wire victory. Junior guard Tavareon Newson scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in the second half to lead the Falcons, who hit a season-high 12 3-pointers in the win. Despite South Fork's attempts to mount a comeback, Jensen Beach held off the Bulldogs to claim the district championship.
Why it matters
This victory ends a long drought for the Jensen Beach program, which had not won a district title since 2018. The win also showcases the team's resilience, as they were able to overcome the absences of key contributors Jalen Webley and Xavier Allen. The Falcons' strong outside shooting and clutch play from Newson proved to be the difference in the competitive matchup between the two Treasure Coast rivals.
The details
Jensen Beach jumped out to an early 14-3 lead, but South Fork chipped away at the deficit, often scoring from the dunker spot against the Falcons' zone defense. Despite the Bulldogs' attempts to take the lead, Jensen Beach always had an answer, with Newson hitting several big shots to keep his team ahead. The Falcons' 12 made 3-pointers, including five from Newson and three from Dre Lott, proved to be the difference, as they outscored South Fork 36-18 from beyond the arc.

What they’re saying
“It's just about not letting things get to your head and always staying focused on the goal. The end goal is just to win. Every time they made a big play, we just had to come back and battle back with our big play.”
— Tavareon Newson, Junior Guard, Jensen Beach (tcpalm.com)
“They shot the hell out of the ball. That was one of their weaknesses during the season.”
— Brian Flynn, Head Coach, South Fork (tcpalm.com)
“One thing we've preached all year is next man up. Everybody on this roster is extremely talented. So in losing those guys, we lost a little defense, which is why we played a zone. But we gained some offensive power from the perimeter, which a lot of teams hadn't seen this year.”

What’s next
