The San Francisco Giants have finalized a $12 million, one-year contract with three-time batting champion Luis Arraez. The 28-year-old infielder led the National League in hits the past two seasons and is expected to be the Giants' new starting second baseman under new manager Tony Vitello.
Why it matters
Arraez is one of the most consistent hitters in baseball, winning batting titles in 2021, 2022, and 2023. His addition to the Giants' lineup gives them a proven offensive threat at second base as they look to bounce back from a disappointing 2025 season and compete in the NL West.
The details
Arraez, a left-handed hitter, batted .292 with eight home runs, 61 RBIs, 181 hits and 11 stolen bases for the San Diego Padres last year. The three-time All-Star spent his first five major league seasons with the Minnesota Twins before being traded to the Miami Marlins in January 2023. San Diego acquired him in May 2024.
