Blue Jays Sign 8-Year MLB Veteran Away From Mariners

The 36-year-old right-hander will be a non-roster invitee to major league spring training.

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed 36-year-old right-handed pitcher Jesse Hahn to a minor-league deal. Hahn, who spent most of last season in Triple-A but made his first major league appearances in four years with the Seattle Mariners, will be a non-roster invitee to major league spring training.

Why it matters

The Blue Jays' bullpen is not projected to be a strong point of their roster this season, so Hahn will have a chance to compete for a spot on the major league team during spring training.

The details

Hahn has eight total seasons of major league experience, but after dominating for the Kansas City Royals in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, he suffered a shoulder injury in 2021 that sent his career off course. He wasn't able to pitch at any level of competition again until 2024, when he pitched in the minors for the Mariners and Los Angeles Dodgers. In his five major league innings last year, Hahn allowed three earned runs, striking out three batters and walking five.
