The University of Hawaii women's water polo team won its third consecutive Big West Conference championship on Sunday, defeating Long Beach State 14-9 in the title match at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Complex in Long Beach, California. Tournament MVP Agatha Weston scored four goals, while six other Wahine players also found the back of the net in the victory.

Why it matters

This third straight conference title is the longest championship run in program history for the Rainbow Wahine, who have now earned an automatic berth to the upcoming NCAA Women's Water Polo Championship. UH's balanced scoring attack and stifling defense proved too much for Long Beach State, the tournament's second seed.

The details

The top-seeded and sixth-ranked Wahine (16-5) never trailed in the match, building a 7-4 halftime lead and then pulling away in the second half. Besides Weston's four goals, Gabrielle Doyle, Alia Burlock, Ema Vernoux and Ariadna Temprano Xambo each scored twice, while Roni Perlman dished out four assists. UH goalkeeper Daisy Logtens made nine saves to anchor the defense.
