The Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency is asking customers to pause all outdoor water use from Feb. 17-24 while scheduled maintenance at Castaic Lake temporarily limits the agency's imported water supply. The California Department of Water Resources will complete pipeline repairs at Castaic Lake, temporarily closing SCV Water's connection and concluding maintenance that began in December.
Why it matters
This maintenance work is necessary to ensure the reliability of the region's water supply, but it will require customers to temporarily reduce their outdoor water use to conserve available resources for indoor needs, health and safety, and emergencies.
The details
SCV Water is asking customers to turn off all outdoor water systems during the Feb. 17-24 period so available supplies can be reserved for essential uses. This includes pausing irrigation of personal landscapes or common areas, washing vehicles by hand, filling or refilling pools, and any other major outdoor water uses that can be postponed.
- The maintenance work at Castaic Lake will take place from Feb. 17-24, 2026.
- SCV Water customers saved 77 million gallons of water (26% compared to previous water use) during a similar shutdown in December 2025.
The players
Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency
The regional water agency that provides water services to the Santa Clarita Valley in California.
California Department of Water Resources
The state agency responsible for managing and protecting California's water resources, including the pipeline repairs at Castaic Lake.
What’s next
SCV Water will remind customers of the call for conservation through various communication channels, including a recorded phone message, in advance of the second phase of maintenance.
The takeaway
This temporary water conservation effort is necessary to ensure reliable water supplies for the Santa Clarita Valley community during critical infrastructure maintenance. By working together, customers can help preserve essential water resources during this period.
