National River Cleanup Day

National River Cleanup is a national day of action on May 16 this year to clean up garbage and debris from our rivers and watersheds. Since 1991, American Rivers has enlisted the help of over 1.3 million volunteers who have participated in thousands of cleanups around the country, spanning over 261,000 miles of rivers and collecting more than 32.5 million pounds of litter and debris.

Participate in a socially distanced cleaning in your neighborhood and nearby natural places this May. Invite your family, friends, and neighbors to participate. Prevention of pollution begins in our own homes. Trash can make its way into the bay through storm drains, creeks, and rivers.

World Fiddle Day

World Fiddle Day, celebrated every third Saturday in May, is an annual celebration of fiddle music. This year, it falls on May 16. All across the world, particularly in regions where the fiddle is popular, several events are organized and put together for World Fiddle Day. The holiday was founded by Caoimhin Mac Aoidh in 2012. The date was deliberately chosen to be the same as the anniversary of the death of legendary Italian violin craftsman Antonio Stradivari.

Clinical Trials Day

Clinical Trials Day is observed on May 20 every year to mark the anniversary of the day in 1747 when James Lind conducted the first randomized clinical study. On Clinical Trials Day, take a moment to recognize the accomplishments of clinical research professionals in public health and medicine by recognizing their efforts in clinical trials. It is also a day to express gratitude to clinical research experts for their contributions to the advancement of public health through their work. The goal is to make this a primary focus for international communication activities, meetings, discussions, and celebrations of clinical research over this period as well.
