College Student Grief Awareness Day

College Student Grief Awareness Day is celebrated on April 16 this year. Every year, the third Thursday of April is set aside for this national awareness day created to recognize college students, their struggles, and the toll it takes on their mental health. According to statistics, at least one in every five U.S. college students suffers from grief or depression considering the constant pressure they face. This holiday raises awareness of that and encourages conversation on ways to improve the situation.

Dutch-American Friendship Day

Dutch-American Friendship Day is observed on April 19 annually. The purpose of this day is to commemorate the start of diplomatic relations between the United States and the Netherlands. The Netherlands was the first country to recognize the independence of the United States of America. In 1782, John Adams, the second president of the United States, was received by the States-General in The Hague as Minister Plenipotentiary of the United States of America. On that same day, John Adams bought a house in The Hague, which became the first American Embassy in the world.

Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Action Day

We are observing Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Action Day on April 19. Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, or C.D.H., is a condition that occurs when the diaphragm — a thin sheet of muscle separating the chest cavity from the abdomen — is not fully developed or has a hole in it. The partial development of the hole causes the organs from the abdomen, like the bowels, stomach, or liver, to move up into the chest cavity. C.D.H. is a lesser-known condition that is quite common throughout the world. David Y. Ige, the Governor of the State of Hawaii, started the day to raise awareness about C.D.H.
