National Old Maids Day, celebrated on June 4, sheds light on the single and childless women over the usual age for marriage. Initially, the ‘old maid’ was considered derogatory as it was used to mock women who were neither married nor had a child. In the old days, people had strict views of the roles a woman should fulfill in order to shape society and future generations. It is because of such societal expectations that single and childless women faced difficult times. However, as times progressed and situations started changing, the term ‘old maid’ gained a much more positive meaning. Today, the day is celebrated in honor of women who chose to focus on themselves as individuals.
Chimborazo Day

Chimborazo Day is celebrated on June 3 every year. Although it isn’t the tallest peak on the planet, Chimborazo mountain holds the distinction of being the highest point on Earth. It is an inactive stratovolcano in the Cordillera Occidental range of the Andes in Ecuador. The mountain is measured at an elevation of 20,000 feet, which makes it the highest mountain in Ecuador. The Chimborazo is also a top destination for mountaineers. On this day, revelers gather together to celebrate the farthest point from the Earth’s center and the spirit of mountaineering.
Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi or The Feast of Corpus Christi is a Christian festival that is celebrated annually on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, on June 19 this year. On this day, devout Christians gather together to honor the sacred body of Jesus Christ. The day is also known as Corpus Domini, which literally translates to ‘body and blood of Christ,’ while some also call it the Feast of Corpus Christi. Unlike other Christian festivals, Corpus Christi is celebrated uniquely in different cultures of the world. The most common way of celebrating the day is by consuming bread and wine — the symbols of the body and blood of Christ.
The Feast of Corpus Christi is also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, and the Church of England calls it the Day of Thanksgiving for the Institution of Holy Communion. In some places, celebrations include elaborate processions where Christians parade consecrated bread through the streets on paths decorated with flower wreaths. The Feast of Corpus Christi is a more joyous celebration after the solemn observance of Maundy Thursday.
