National Immune System Day

When Did You Last Say Thank You… to Your Immune System?

Think about it: As soon as you entered this world, your immune system took on the job of your bodyguard. Yet, despite its relentless service, it has never received paid time off or a vacation. It has been on duty 24/7, non-stop, working three daily shifts, and rarely receives a simple Thank you.

And let us be honest, when was the last time you even acknowledged its existence? Today, that changes. Welcome to National Immune System Day, a day when we roll out the red carpet for our immune systems. It’s a day dedicated to celebrating your indispensable yet silent, overworked yet underpaid, vigilant sidekick who never gives up on you! March 11 is a day that should be remembered forever because it shaped the course of humanity forever. It marks the day the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic, underscoring our immune systems’ critical role in everyday life. What about YOU? Were you prepared? Did you feel protected? Did you find your immune system was up for the challenge when COVID-19 hit the scene?

Sick of Food Waste Day

The Monday after the Big Game is known for being a major “sick” day, with 16+ million people estimated to call in “sick” from work this year. So, this Monday, February 9, we’re inviting everyone, including those not going to work, to get to work fighting food waste by closing their laptop and opening the fridge. Simply put, we’re sick … of food waste.

Willie Mays Day

Celebrate the legendary “Say Hey Kid” on Willie Mays Day taking place on February 4 and that was inspired by a mathematical wonder. Fans of the iconic baseball star Willie Mays will no doubt recognize the significance of the date February 4, 2024, or 2/4/24. Mays first wore the revered number 24 jersey in his rookie year with the New York Giants in 1951, popularizing it over the course of two decades.

Adam Swig, founder and executive director of the California nonprofit Value Culture and a friend of Mays, was struck by how momentous the date was. In collaboration with the San Francisco Giants, the mayor’s office, and many others, plans were set in motion to declare February 4 as Willie Mays Day. The first celebration took place in San Francisco in 2024 to honor Mays, who’s regarded as one of the greatest players in Major League Baseball history.
