People In New Hampshire Drink More Beer Than Any Other State

With National Beer Lovers Day on the horizon, we look at how American's consume their beer

With National Beer Lovers Day fast approaching, we asked ourselves “who loves beer the most?” Well, it would seem that would be the good people of New Hampshire.
Statistics show that the people of New Hampshire drink the most beer per capita. This could, of course, be partly down to the state’s relaxed taxes on beer, but it could also just mean that the locals enjoy a good beer.

Montana came in second, Vermont third, with North and South Dakota fourth and fifth. The people of Utah drink the least beer out of all the U.S states, with a large amount of their population being Mormon and choosing to abstain from alcohol altogether.

The data, released by the National Institute of Health, shows that California as a whole consumes more beer than any other state, although they have a much larger population meaning the average per person is still relatively low compared to other states. Texas, Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania make up the top five for total consumption per state.

Bud Light is the most popular beer in the U.S, with Coors Light, Budweiser, Miller Lite and Corona making up the top five. Bud Light takes up a huge 15% market share for beers sold in the U.S with the next-best selling Coors Light only taking up 7.7%. The top five beers between them account for 38% of the market.

The beer industry as a whole is in a slight decline, with 2% less beer being sold in 2019 than the previous year. In a sign that people’s tastes are changing, craft beer is seeing a huge surge in popularity. Sales grew by 4% in 2019, giving it an overall 13% market share. One thing is for sure, we’re not short on choice in the U.S, with their being over 7,000 breweries currently in operation.

Whilst we do encourage you to drink in moderation, National Beer Lovers Day is for relaxing with a cold beer and it does only come around once a year, after all.
